Penncasso Custom Pen Maker
How we architected a proprietary e-commerce platform and foundational search presence for a high-ticket custom pen maker — producing a $3,000 purely organic corporate sale.
The Problem
Penncasso crafts handmade, custom pens at $1,000 per unit. Each piece is built by hand in Tulsa, Oklahoma — a product worthy of its price point. But the infrastructure surrounding it was not.
Every transaction flowed through Etsy. That dependency carried a direct cost: marketplace fees were eroding profit margins on every sale. Worse, the third-party storefront was undermining the craftsmanship buyers were paying for. A $1,000 handmade pen listed alongside mass-produced goods sends the wrong signal.
Beyond the margin problem, Penncasso had no owned digital real estate. No custom website. No search visibility. No Google Business Profile. No physical marketing assets to support in-person sales events. Every dollar of revenue was running through a platform they did not control — and could not optimize.
The Blueprint
Driller Design architected a complete digital and physical infrastructure to reclaim Penncasso's margins and establish independent market authority.
Custom E-Commerce Website with Stripe Integration
We built a proprietary custom e-commerce website engineered for high-ticket transactions. A direct Stripe payment gateway was integrated into the platform, allowing Penncasso to process credit card payments on their own digital real estate. Zero marketplace fees. Zero third-party dependencies. Every dollar of revenue now flows where it belongs — directly to the maker.
Foundational Search Engine Optimization
To capture organic buyer traffic, we deployed a foundational SEO blueprint targeting high-intent search queries related to custom pen makers and handcrafted writing instruments. The goal was not volume — it was precision. We targeted buyers actively searching for handmade, high-ticket products.
Google Business Profile Optimization
We built and fully optimized Penncasso's Google Business Profile to anchor local discovery in the Tulsa market. This established the brand's presence across Google Search and Maps — critical infrastructure for a maker-based business that also sells through local events and word-of-mouth.
Certificate of Authenticity Design & Print Procurement
A $1,000 pen demands more than a shipping label. We designed a custom Certificate of Authenticity — a branded postcard that accompanies every pen sold. This physical asset was printed through our print procurement pipeline and serves as both proof of craftsmanship and a tactile brand touchpoint at the moment of delivery.
Business Cards & Corporate Email
We designed and procured custom business cards to support in-person sales and networking. We also provisioned custom business email routing, replacing generic free email with a branded domain address — completing the professional communications infrastructure.
Managed Website Hosting
The entire platform was placed on our managed hosting infrastructure — enterprise-grade server allocation, daily backups, SSL security, and uptime monitoring. Penncasso focuses on the craft. We maintain the digital real estate.
The Impact
The results were immediate and measurable.
By eliminating Etsy's marketplace fees through a proprietary e-commerce website, Penncasso recovered approximately 10% of their profit margin on every transaction. On a $1,000 pen, that is $100 per sale returned to the maker — capital that was previously surrendered to a platform they did not own.
The foundational SEO we deployed produced a purely organic, $3,000 corporate sale. Three custom pens, purchased by BOK Financial. No ad spend. No outbound outreach. A corporate buyer found Penncasso through search and converted directly on their website.
Penncasso now operates on fully owned digital real estate. Every touchpoint — from the e-commerce platform to the Certificate of Authenticity accompanying each pen — communicates the standard their craftsmanship demands. The infrastructure is built. The margins are protected. The search pipeline is active.
